The Church at Laodicea

The church at Laodicea was the last of the seven churches of Asia Minor and the most sharply rebuked by our Savior as his message was given to this New Testament church. This church stands out as a Lukewarm Church. A church that Jesus would spew out of his mouth if they did not repent, and receive gold of the Lord, refined in the fire and white robes to be clothed upon. Jesus would have this church revived and restored to the former place of spiritual zeal and spiritual life. Therefore he is pictured as standing outside of this church knocking to gain enterance for the church had left the Lord out of its church. They were a church wealthly in this worlds good but poor blind and naked spiritually. They would compare to a modern social gospel church full of the charity of the world, but Christ is not in their works, they are humanistic but not spiritual. This church is neither cold nor hot, but lukewarm spiritually, and Jesus finds them distasteful, insipid and in need of repentance. No commendation is given to this church, of the seven churches this one is the worst and seems to dipict the church of Christ at the end of the age before the Lord returns to pour out his wrath in tribulation.
