  1. Who are we as a church? Why do we exist?
    a) What are distinctives as a church? How would we describe our church?
    b) Distinct = Different/Contrast
    i) We are a baptistic church. We are a confessional church, 1689 London Baptist Confession.
    ii) We believe in the Doctrine of Grace (Reformation).
    iii) We have a constitution. Defines how we operate as a corporate entity.
  2. What’s Worship?
    a) Worship/Music
    i) 2 Peter 1:3
    (1) God did not leave out what we need
    (2) We must know why we do what we do
    (3) Context
    ii) Apply proper Hermeneutics
    b) Doctrine – Principles – Standards
    i) John 4:22-24/Proverbs 14:12
    ii) Doctrine does not change
    (1) Principles/Standards might change over time
  3. Regulative Principle
    a) True worship is only commanded by God; False worship is anything not commanded (“normative”)
    b) We do this based on proper Hermeneutics
    c) Jesus rejected the worship of the Pharisees
    i) They taught their own doctrine
    ii) Worship according to their will rather than God’s
    d) Speaks of both to truth and spirit
    i) Old Testament worship was typological, external and concern with location and ritual while the new testament is not
    ii) Jesus emphasizes truth over error and ignorance to the Samaritan woman.
