Replacing God's Laws with the Traditions of Men

Fundamentalist Pharisees have always ruined the faith by displacing the Laws of God with their own laws. Whether it be the prohibitionists of the 1890s, the celibists of the 890s, or the hand-washing pharisees of the 30s, men have always tended to replace the authority of God's law with man's traditions and moral fences.

Kevin Swanson points out that from the 1790s, evangelical Christianity abandoned God's laws as the standard for ethics. The evangelicals fought on issues like slavery, suffrage, child labor laws, and so on, wihtout appeal to the law of God as their authoritative standard for life.

Even worse, many evangelicals actually disdain God's laws in the Old Testament, including the law Jesus affirms in this text - to put to death a son who would curse father or mother. Kevin appeals to an anti-theonomic quote from Barrack Obama to buttress his point.

With the majority of evangelicals planning to vote for Barrack Obama or Hillary Clinton this year (per a recent survey from George Barna), it's obvious the standard for ethics is not longer the laws of God - but the ever-shifting sands of humanism and pragmatism.

In this message, Kevin Swanson calls for a radical change in the way Christians view the law of God. Christians must fundamentally re-think the way they view ethics. It's time to rebuild our meta-ethical foundations. This is the only way we will salvage the faith in the western church for the next generation.
