God speaks unexpected words of mercy and love to a stubborn and disobedient people. In the face of their manifest shortcomings, the Lord God their Saviour affirms his covenant faithfulness. He speaks of creation and formation, of redemption, and of possession and affection.
These declarations of the Triune God establish our calling, comfort, and communion with him. What a wonder for God to say of sinners like us, 'You are mine.'
