Corporate Unison Prayer

91

Lesson Outline:
▶ What You Are to Learn (Instruction)
• There are various modes of prayer within church life, one of which is unison prayer.
• The purpose of unison prayer is to express the church's unity -- "being of one accord" or "of one heart."
• For us, unison prayer requires it to be read, memorized, or repeated.
▶ What You Are to Do: (The Law's Requirements, Confession, & Repentance)
• Corporate prayer should, in some sense, be unison prayer -- "of one heart."
• Strive to listen to other's prayers.
• Strive to make your prayers "listenable." While this is no reason to not pray, consider that you want others to "pray with you" in their hearts. Consider your pace, volume, vocabulary, and concision. (Wikipedia: Concision is the cutting out of unnecessary words while conveying an idea. It aims to enhance communication by eliminating redundancy without omitting important information.)
• Distinguish between personal prayer content and corporate prayer content.
▶ What You Are to Believe (Petition/Prayer)
• Christ promises that when we gather together, in His name, and pray accordingly, we can know our prayer are granted to us. (Matthew 18:19)
▶ Where You Are Going (Thanksgiving/Praise)
• Even in heaven, prayers are offered in unison. (See Revelation 4:8, 11; 6:9-10.)
• Imagine the entirety of the elect all praying and singing in unison
