Running the Race in the New Year

However important the necessary things of life may be, of much more importance is the state of your soul. The Bible describes life as being like ‘running a race'. Life, with all its trials - are you running in the real race, do you take it seriously?

We all run towards the same finishing line, namely death! Do not therefore just live for the things of this world. Seek to live with eternity in view. Do not neglect the things of eternal value; you need to be born again! Without God your soul will perish in hell. How are you running? Are you running with the wrong prize in view? You have to be able to finish well, therefore make your peace with Christ, look to Him.

Ask how you can run better, look to the Bible for your help. It encourages us to “lay aside every weight” – are there matters of sin and unbelief that may be holding you back? Is worldliness a problem that prevents you running well?

Get fit! Be patient, pray – keep praying, deal well with trials – they have been described as “places to discover the joy of obedience.” Get the best view you can of Jesus Christ! Have daily thoughts of Him; see Him by faith, and when the running gets difficult He will strengthen you.

Remember, you are running for that imperishable crown, one that fadeth not away. Keep running!
