Jesus Is Much Better than the Angels

To encourage his first century readers to persevere in their faith in Jesus as God's promised Messiah, the writer to the Hebrews sets Jesus before them as God's Son who is superior to prophets (1:1-3) and angels (1:4- 2:18). In this message we look at the extended passage of 1:4-2:18 with a focus on 1:4 and see that Jesus is as much better than the angels, as His inherited name (Son) is a more excellent name than theirs. Jesus' humanity, His rule as human king of the Kingdom of God, and the dignity of all human beings who have been created in the image of God and united to Him by faith and who therefore share in His life and even kingship…, are gems in the buried treasure of this section. An important implication of Jesus' superiority to prophets and angels is that: we should pay careful attention to what we have heard concerning Him (2:1-4) especially considering that the truth of Jesus (The Son of God) is the truth of us (sons in the Son).
