Exposing Darkness

119

Nothing exposes dirt and imperfections like light! In darkness, a room might look clean and tidy! But turn on the lights, and watch out!!! Jesus Christ, as the 'light of the world' not only expressed the holiness of God, but also exposed the sinfulness of man. And you and I, as 'lights' in this world are to have the same effect. We are to expose sin for what it is. First, we must have a moral platform from which to speak, which means we must first deal with the sin in our own lives. But not just the 'big' sins of adultery and sexual immorality, but the sins of 'complaining' and 'disputing." Jesus said that there are two things that will impress the world: our love for one another and our unity. If we are complaining about one another, we are not loving, and if we are arguing and fighting, we are not unified. He wants us to be 'blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom we shine as lights.' We need to be a positive role model for others to follow, manifesting a life of moral, spiritual, and personal excellence. Then, and only then, will we be a position to speak carefully about sin in sharing the good news of the gospel with others. Only then will we be a position to invite others to 'Awake from sleep, arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light.'
