Emancipated? Then Live Like It!

The antagonist (Romans 6:15a) -- either an antinomian who teaches the antinomian notion that, because we are no longer under the law but under grace, we are free to do as we please; or a Jewish legalist who is accusing Paul of this error.

The answer (6:15b) -- Paul expresses his utter abhorrence for this idea.

The axiom (6:16) -- The one who willingly offers himself as a slave to obey a master is that man's slave. All men are either slaves to master #1 ("sin resulting in death") or master #2 ("obedience resulting in righteousness"); no one can be a slave of two masters. You must not act like the slaves of sin that you once were.

The alternatives (6:17-22) -- alternative enslavements (vv.. 17-18), practices (v. 19), and outcomes (vv. 20-22). As you once presented your "members" (physical members, faculties, abilities, time, energy) to sin, present them to your new master.
