I. CONTINUED FROM PREVIOUS WEEKS 6:1-8:19

  1. Wickedness of men grieved God 6:5-6, 13a
  2. God declares judgment upon the earth 6:7, 13b
  3. Noah found grace (discovered that God was gracious to him) 6:8
  4. Noah builds ark per God's instruction 6:9-22
    a. preaches righteousness for 120 yrs 6:3; Heb 11:7; 1 Pet 3:19-22
  5. Noah enters ark with his family & animals per God's command 7-8:14
  6. After 1 yr 10 days (7:11; 8:14), Noah, family, & animals go 8:15-19
  7. The day the ark rested on Ararat (month 7, day 17)
    a. "Come all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me... and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." Matt 11:28-30

II. CONSECRATED WORSHIP TO GOD Gen 8:20

  1. Enters the ark by grace & mercy unto salvation; departs the ark by grace with thanksgiving unto sanctification.
  2. Noah builds an altar
  3. Noah sacrifices appropriately, w/clean animals
  4. Noah offers w/burnt offerings
    a. "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world..." Rom 12:1-2

III. COVENANT WITH MEN BY GOD 8:21

  1. God is pleased in His saving grace (sweet savour) Eph 5:2
    a. "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased"
  2. God pledges not to curse the earth again
  3. God prophetically reveals the truth of man's depravity,
    Thus, God presents a rainbow as a TOKEN, a sign of remembrance of the Covenant He promised through His decree. 8:22-9:17
    -because man was wicked continually, God broke up the fountain
