The Three Fold Cord of Missions: The Cord of Prayer

William Carey, the father of modern missions, said in his last meeting with his mission board before departing for India, “If you will hold the rope, I will descend into the pit and bring them out.” This has been the call of every missionary since that time, a call for “rope holders”. Ecclesiastes 4:12 states, “And if one can overpower him who is alone, two can resist him. A cord of three strands is not quickly torn apart.” What the modern mission movement needs is a rope of three strands. A rope which is not quickly nor easily broken. What is this rope, what are its components. How can modern lay men and women, held so tightly to home and career by their responsibilities ever be involved in modern missions?
