David Takes the Throne

First we examine the contradictory report given by the young Amalekite. It is our contention the true account is found at the end of 1 Samuel and this Amalekite is trying to gain favor with David.

We also see that David's rise to the throne was not without its own difficulties. It would take over 7 years for all of Israel to be united under David. The house of David grows stronger and stronger while the house of Saul grows weaker and weaker.

This account looks at some of the reasons for the delay of David's taking the throne and looks into the character of Abner and Joab.
