Being Completely Satisfied with the Lord Jesus

It is recorded in 2 Samual 3:36 that the people took notice of what King David did, and it pleased them, because whatever the King did pleased all the people.

Man's history is littered with examples of people following blindly their leaders into lawlessness and depravity. Indeed, it seems that mankind is wont to be satisfied with wicked leaders. The rule of law above everyman is a fragile construct, and we have observed how easily it is broken even in our own country today.

But King David was often a type of our Lord Jesus, and the people's satisfaction with whatever their King did is a model of how the Saints ought to always be satisfied and pleased with whatever our Lord Jesus does.

No other man, no other leader ought to be accorded such deference by his people. But because Jesus is the Word and the Law, there is never any chance that people will follow Him into lawlessness, for everything about Him is upright and pure and lawful. Indeed, to apply this passage to any man other than our Lord is blasphemy indeed.

Oh that we would pay close attention to every word and deed of the Savior like David's people did! Too many believers care too little about the things of Christ. But we ought to watch Him carefully indeed.

Oh that Believers would be completely pleased with the words and work of Jesus! Even the hard things He bids us do, we ought to be satisfied with!

Oh that our satisfaction with our Lord Jesus were a thing of the heart - not that we are satisfied with what He does so much as we are satisfied completely with whatever satisfies Him!

Oh that we would all say of our Blessed Redeemer, He hath done all things well!
