The blood of sprinkling

1 Peter 3:21,22:
a brief explanation of the context - Christ by the Spirit preaching in Noah; the figure of baptism explained in the light of the comparison between Noah and the ark 'wherein . . eight souls were saved by water'.

2. Baptism signifies cleansing from sin through Jesus Christ
   Hebrews 9:7-10:
   context: the superiority of Christ to angels, Moses and the priesthood of Aaron and his sons. In chps 9 & 10 there is a direct comparison of Christ's priesthood and that of Aaron. Several contrasts made.
3. The Holy Ghost spoke through his appointment of OT ordinances v8.
4. The Holy Ghost declared the gospel through the OT ordinances v9.
5. The Holy Ghost declares cleansing by the blood of Christ through the OT ordinances v10.
6. The Holy Ghost declared that cleansing through Christ by means of appointed baptisms v10. The sprinklings of blood in the OT were 'baptisms'. The 'coming upon' by the act of sprinkling sets forth God's initiative in the blessings of salvation, the emblem thereby emphasizing that salvation is of the Lord
