Melchizadek: a Superior Priest, and a Type of Christ
Series Hebrews
79
Melchizedek, priest of the Most High God, was a priest superior to the Levitical priests. First, he was not only a priest, but also a king. Next, his priesthood preceded the establishment of the biological Levitical priesthood. Also, Melchizedek remained a priest without end, whereas Levitical priests retired at age 50. Furthermore, Abram worshipped by paying a tithe to God, via Melchizedek, before the Law required a tithe be paid to the Levites. In all ways Melchizedek was a superior priest to the Levitical priests. And God’s purpose for his life was to be a type, pointing to the Great High Priest, Christ Jesus, the most superior Priest of all.
