Abraham: Answered God's Call

Abraham offered Isaac as a sacrifice, just as Christ was offered at the cross. However, what Isaac did in picture, Christ did in completion. Isaac carried the wood for his own sacrifice, just as Christ did when He carried the cross. Just as Abraham laid the wood upon Isaac, the sins of the elect were laid upon Christ. Christ redeemed God’s elect by and in connection with the shedding of His own blood. He endured the fire of God’s wrath and divine judgement as a substitute for His chosen (elect) people. God provided himself a lamb (a sacrifice) because men are unable to contribute anything to their salvation.
