We see a "David" here who is ready to be king: he exercises spiritual leadership, military leadership, and relational leadership. In every way, he shows that he is ready to be king. While all this unfolds down in southern Israel, little does David know that Saul lays dying in northern Israel. Standing at the threshold of the kingdom then, David shows that he is ready to wear a crown.
