A Defense of Particular Redemption

360 ( 284 | 76 )

John 6:37-39 -- All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

-- ALL THAT THE FATHER GIVETH ME – Election of the Father

-- SHALL COME TO ME – The effectual drawing of the Holy Spirit
-- HE THAT COMETH TO ME – Human responsibility, but we have already defined WHY they came – The Father elected and the Spirit drew -- TOTAL DEPRAVITY makes this a necessity.
-- I SHOULD LOSE NOTHING – there is the perseverance of the saints.
-- BUT SHOULD RAISE HIM UP – There is the work of Christ on our behalf.

First – From a theological point of view.

We believe the death of Christ DOES save, and the reason I am a Christian is because JESUS DIED FOR ME. Joe is a Christian.
Total depravity,
BUT God DOES intervene. Father elects – The sacrifice is appointed
He still is not saved. The Holy Spirit applies.

  1. All those that belong to Christ and have been redeemed by Christ, have been given to Christ by the election of the Father.

John 6:37-39;
John 17:1-2; John 17:6; John 17:9; John 17:24

  1. His atonement is particular in that it is specifically directed to Individuals

John 10:11 -- FOR THE SHEEP – NOT FOR THE GOATS.
This is normal language in the Scriptures.
Biblical language.
Christ died for OUR sins, according to the Scriptures.
He shall save HIS people from THEIR sins.
Shall the weaker BROTHER perish for whom Christ died?
Christ died for the Ungodly.

  1. The Purpose of the Atonement -- for the sheep
    John 11:49-52; John 10:14-16
