Continuing the series on church government, the Eldership or the Kirk Session is examined.

Rev. Ken Elliot in part two of the Eldership looks at the occupant of the Eldership.

  1. THE OFFICE OF THE ELDERSHIP.

  2. THE OCCUPANT OF THE ELDERSHIP.

i) The character he is to possess (must be a man).
a) Personal life: Be blameless, not given to wine, not greedy and temperate.
b) Family life: Be a husband to one wife, hospitable, and rules his house well.
c) Social life: Have a good testimony, be well behaved and not a brawler.
d) Church life: Be vigilant, responsible and apt to teach.

ii) The competence he is to manifest.
a) Competent in governing with diligence and grace.
b) Competent in the Word of God and doctrines of the faith.
c) Not a novice but one proven in the faith.
d) Man of prayer and committed to the prayer meetings and services
e) Have a burden for souls and committed to the work.

iii) The crown he is to wear
a) For the faithful elder there is reward, a crown of glory that fadeth not away.
