Jonah 4:1-11

Introduction

• The evil empire: Nineveh
• The famous prophet: Jonah

1. "But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he became angry."

• 'We have met the enemy, and he is us.'
• Jonah prays, but he is not right with God:
  • An entirely self-centred prayer
  • Jonah sees God is not acting the way he wants
  • Jonah tries to manipulate God : a childish response to God's mercy

2. How God defeats the real enemy within

• God prepares...
• God teaches Jonah:
  • Jonah loved God's gifts more than he loved God
  • Jonah loved people for what he could get out if them, not because they were people
