Purpose: To show the nature and importance of a godly presence in and influence upon this world.

  1. Godly Presence
  2. Godly Prayers
  3. Godly Instruction
  4. Godly Faith

First, let us personally examine ourselves as to whether we have been living and walking as the friends of the Lord. The Lord says in John 15:14, “Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.”

Second, let us spend time this week to especially instruct and teach our children that they belong to the Lord as children of the covenant and that the Lord has set them apart from the world. And as covenant children, they should actively seek the Lord and desire to join the rest of the covenant family at the table as soon as possible.

Third, let us consider how great a mediator and high priest we have in the Lord Jesus Christ. Abraham interceded for Sodom. God heard his prayer and did not destroy Lot with the rest of the wicked.

But how much more can we be certain that the high priestly intercession of Christ on our behalf will be effective! Christ not only interceded for sinners but He even took the cup of wrath in their place and died for them.

There is no possibility that such intercession will ever be ineffectual or go unanswered. What a glorious and great high priest we have in the Lord Jesus Christ! Will we not willingly and eagerly run to the table next week to receive of Him and commune with Him again?

But fourth and finally, consider that there is none righteous but Christ. Abraham pleaded with the Lord not to destroy the righteous with the wicked, and that if a minimum number of righteous people could be found, then the Lord would not destroy the city.
