Your Parents, No Matter Your Age

84 ( 39 | 45 )

The fifth command, "honor your father and your mother" (Ex. 20:12), is for all children. But not in the same way. The parent/child relationship is dynamic not static. To young children we stress the duty of compliance (Eph. 6:1). But children eventually leave their parents (Gen. 2:24). This is right. And they should begin preparing to leave years earlier. Parents should raise children to be independent, to no longer need to lean on them in their walk with God.

So how do maturing children continue to honor their parents beyond the simple obedience that was required in their youth?
