Son of God and Son of Man

52

We believe that consecutive expository preaching is the best way to “Preach the Word” (2 Tim. 4:1-2) week after week. Sometimes we come across passages which appear to be especially challenging – like this week’s text which contains the genealogy of Jesus going back to Adam. We also believe that ALL Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable (2 Tim. 3:16-17). God has put this text into the Scripture for our good. This week I will even preach about the commas in the genealogy (yes I know that there weren’t commas in the original Greek text, but you will see what I mean).

We will see why the genealogies of Scripture are important as a record of God’s faithfulness to His promises and as proof of the claim of kings to their throne. Genealogies remind us of the human need for salvation and of God’s plan to accomplish redemption.

Finally, we will talk about the significance of the age at which Jesus began His public ministry. Why did He wait until He was past age thirty? Why didn’t the Father simply send the Son to the earth as a full grown man (like the first Adam) instead of having Him go through infancy, childhood, youth and young adulthood before making His appearance to Israel?
