Family Discipline

74

The promises of the new covenant with all its divine recourses is so much better than the old covenant. Nevertheless, the trials and difficulties and persecutions that the church was suffering at the hands of oppressive religion and civil government was wearing them down. Hebrews addresses these issues with various admonitions ("Let us").
Hebrews 12 admonishes the believers to shed their sins and distractions, particularly the propensity to unbelief, and run the race set before them. The author of the book directs their attention to the fact that God was disciplining them away from self to true devotion to Jesus. The end of the race would be peace with people, holiness with God, great joy in the Spirit in the kingdom of God. The business now is to endure and faithfully follow Jesus. Until we are perfected at the coming of Jesus, we will endure the Father's discipline.
