The Olympic Games - A Picture of the Christian Life

571 ( 478 | 93 )

The games included, running, boxing, wrestling, gymnastics etc. and the victors were given great glory. They were crowned with green wreaths, but their reception on their return home was with great honour. They had parades to welcome them home and a new opening in city walls were made for their return and they were given special honours within the city, none less than to live without paying taxes.

So we would be surprised if we did not find such terms and analogies in the N.T. They complement the times, peoples and their culture. It shows that the Bible was written in the times of real people in real places going through real human experiences.

This Bible didn't just fall out of the sky. It is meant for us in our human issues of life and it addresses the things that we deal with in our real world.
Paul the apostle takes up this language in his desire to motivate these Christians to earnest Christian living.
Is this of interest to you? Do you want to know how to live the Christian life then we need to take heed to what we learn from the use Paul the Apostle made of these Olympic events.
