The Gospel By Which You Are Saved

98

In the preceding chapters of Paul's first letter to the Corinthians, he has had to deal with confusion over spiritual gifts, immorality in the church, disagreement over Christian liberty issues, and marriage and divorce issues. Yet Paul has kept true to his promise: “I will not know anything among you, except Jesus Christ, and him crucified.”

Now, in the opening verses of chapter 15, Paul grounds the whole church once again in the common ground that every Christian shares: the gospel of Jesus Christ. He says, in effect, “Brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, the gospel you received, the gospel in which you stand, the gospel by which you are saved." And so Paul goes on to describe this Christian gospel which saves.

What does it look like? Paul gives us here one of the most explicit, prioritized descriptions of the Christian gospel to be found anywhere in the New Testament. Join us, then, as we hear from the apostle Paul himself the gospel by which you are saved.
