The City of Corinth was raunchy and rough, a sort of financial mecca boasting a busy port, lively markets, competitive trade and cut-throat business deals. Sellers, buyers, cheaters, gamblers, thieves and gangs were there. You name it, Corinth had it... When the day was done, the evening was for fun as a thousand women descended from the temple dedicated to Aphrodite, the goddess of love, to engage in trade of a different sort. The city gained a reputation of immorality. But, in this city, God had many people, they didn't pitch their tents in some secluded glade far from the maddening crowd, they were right there in Corinth. They didn't build monasteries, they didn't head for the hills and a five acre block, they were in the sultry, sordid, sensual, sin-infested city of Corinth, bearing witness to Christ who came into the world to save sinners
