Mercy on a Sinking Ship
108
He looks into her eyes. The ship is going down and he knows his dear wife can't swim. They only have one life-jacket between them. His chances of survival are slim. Yet he is compelled from deep within to give her his life-jacket, and so give her life. He knows it will probably cost him his own. Look into his eye; what do you see? I see tender mercy. I see a desire to rescue someone he dearly loves from the misery of drowning in freezing water on a black night.
When I look at God in Christ, I see the same tender mercy to a more magnificent degree. Beautiful tender mercy, acting to rescue me; acting to purchase, at the cost of His own life, the lives of millions for God.
