In Isaiah 1:2-20, Yahweh puts Judah on trial in 3 spheres of life.
I. Yahweh puts Judah as a nation on trial.
A. Yahweh calls His witnesses (v. 2a)
B. Yahweh brings His evidence.

  1. You are rebellious children (vs. 2b-3).
  2. You are a sinful nation (v. 4a).
  3. You have forsaken and despised me
    (v. 4b).

C. Yahweh cross-examines Judah.

  1. Why do you continue to rebel?
    a. You are a wounded man with undressed wounds (vs. 5a-b).
    b. You are desolate, like an abandoned vineyard booth (vs. 7-8).

D. Yahweh reminds of His compassion (v. 9).
II. Yahweh puts Judah's religious practices on trial.
A. Yahweh calls His witnesses (v. 10).
B. Yahweh addresses those charged.

  1. "I'm fed up with your worship" (v. 11).
  2. "I have not required this kind of worship" (v.12).
  3. "Stop bringing these vain offerings" (vs. 13-14).
  4. "I will not respond to these vain offerings" (v. 15).
  5. "This is what I require" (vs. 16-17).
  6. "This is my verdict if you obey (vs. 18-19).
  7. "This is my verdict if you disobey (v. 20).
