Praying Requires Remembering

110

Cutting through all of the postures and clothing and places and words, Jesus gets down to the primary driving force of prayer--a deep desire for God to be honoured. God is at the centre of the universe and I, as a praying person, love that! It is an expression of the beauty of God. God's honour must come first. Jesus doesn't start with the person praying. God at the centre is a lifestyle--the true Christian lifestyle. The whole Bible is centered on God, the way is should be. God is beautiful in repairing what men destroyed. Everything is either an instrument or an end. God is not my instrument, God is the end. One author confesses how little of his prayers are consumed with the glory of God. Remember, you are talking to God!Sadly, the awe is absent in our prayer. Jesus shows that we shouldn't pray for long without awe. How? Look up! Think about the character of God! Scriptures that speak about Him. We are so easily distracted when we pray. Get focusing on God. Why does it matter that God is the God the Bible says He is? What do the names of God mean? How is God seen exercising these attributes? So we look up. But we need to look "in" too. If I am not moved by the glory of God, I need to ask what is wrong with me. Then look back at all of the astounding works of God. Yes, we ask God to give us a sense of awe, but we also need to work at it! Then finally, we look forward. God will wrap up space and time. The great reversal is coming. And I want God's glory to be revealed there, more than anything else in this world.
