Nadab and Abihu's Strange Fire: A Hard Lesson about Worship

Leviticus 8 and 9 record the institution of the Levitical Priesthood. In Chapter 8 Aaron and his sons are cleansed, clothed and consecrated for holy service. In chapter 9 sacrifices and offerings were made by Aaron and after entering and exiting the tabernacle he blesses the people. The presence of God comes down and consumes the sacrifices.

It was at this crucial time that Nadab and Abihu go beyond what is written and bring un-prescribed fire before the Lord. They are struck down.
