The Greatest Commandment

If you were a scribe living in Israel during the years of Jesus' ministry, and you had the opportunity to ask Jesus any question at all, you might just ask Him this: 'Which is the greatest commandment of all?' We might have expected Him to respond with what we know as the first commandment, but instead, He said, 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' It would be the epitomy of vanity and pride for you to consistently ask others to love you, and it would be counter-productive. How is it that God can do so? 'The dilemma is resolved when we consider that since God is the only being who is infinitely pure, righteous, loving, just, merciful and glorious in the universe, it is RIGHT for us to love Him supremely, and WRONG for us to fail to do so. Since God desires what is BEST for us, He MUST exhort us to do what is supremely good.' This message explores this and other issues such as: Is love something that can be commanded? What is this love? Is it feeling, is it action, is it both? What are some things that sour our love? Have you left your first love? What can you do if you realize you don't love God as you should?
