The Purpose of The Atonement

God's love was the moving cause of the Atonement. Its purpose was to reconcile God to His elect people and, in time, to reconcile His people to Himself. There was also a reward for Christ, namely that the heathen were given to him for a possession and He was raised to the place of supreme authority as the God man.
