  1. Sanctification is NOT self-help; it is the work of the Spirit of Christ in you. (The problem) "There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death."
  2. Understanding what has been done for you opens the door for true sanctification. (The Correction) - "for God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do."
    a. God has provided the substitute in His own Son. "By sending his own son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin,"
    b. God condemned your sin when His Son took that sin on himself. "He condemned sin in the flesh,"
    c. God's righteous law has been satisfied by the death of Jesus in your place-"in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us,"
    d. The result is that our sinful spirit has been replaced with the that of Christ-"who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit."
  3. Your view of sanctification is seen in where your thoughts take you. "For those who live according to the flash set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit."
    a. Your thoughts are on dead things or living things-"For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace."
    b. Your thoughts are either hostile toward God… "For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God,"
    c. Your thoughts will not submit to God… "for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot."
    d. Your thoughts are either pleasing to God... "Those who are in the flesh cannot please God."
