PART 4: THE PRESENT PURSUIT OF GOD’S REST, cont.
TEXT: Hebrews 4:1-13
SUMMARY: Regarding the principles that have been established concerning the promise of God’s rest and its meaning, Paul summons his readers by giving them a motive to respond (“Let us fear,” v. 1)― and a disposition by which they might persevere (“Let us be diligent,” v. 11).
I. “LET US FEAR” Becase Old Testament Israel failed to enter; because we also face many dangers; and because God is not One to be trifled with.
II. “LET US BE DILIGENT.”
A. Because a Promise Remains.
- The Old Testament remnant.
- The New Testament promise.
B. Because the Time is Today.
C. Because the Reward is So Great.
- The “rest” presently enjoyed.
- The “rest” that remains.
