PART 4: THE PRESENT PURSUIT OF GOD’S REST, cont.
TEXT: Hebrews 4:1-13

SUMMARY: Regarding the principles that have been established concerning the promise of God’s rest and its meaning, Paul summons his readers by giving them a motive to respond (“Let us fear,” v. 1)― and a disposition by which they might persevere (“Let us be diligent,” v. 11).

I. “LET US FEAR” Becase Old Testament Israel failed to enter; because we also face many dangers; and because God is not One to be trifled with.

II. “LET US BE DILIGENT.”
A. Because a Promise Remains.

  1. The Old Testament remnant.
  2. The New Testament promise.

B. Because the Time is Today.

C. Because the Reward is So Great.

  1. The “rest” presently enjoyed.
  2. The “rest” that remains.
