The Need for True Unity Between and Within Local Churches (1)

130

The first part of a short two-part study on the need for true biblical unity between and within local churches.

Considered is the fact that true unity for the believer has already been established through the Lord Jesus Christ, at conversion. Thus, in a very real sense we are already 'related' to every other genuine Christian. We are therefore, together, members of the body of Christ. It may be of course that either through ignorance, or prejudice, we may not 'recognise' others as real Christians.

No organisation or denomination that seeks to impose its rule is mentioned in Scripture. Unity cannot be achieved through church councils or presbyteries.

How is unity to be expressed? What does it look like at its best? How can we describe the ideal? These are some of the questions answered under the heading - 'Unity Described and Lived'.

For a case study in true biblical unity we are referred to the Apostle Paul, and his Epistle to the church at Philippi.

The second study, among other things, will look at false, and 'uncomfortable' unity.
