Jesus: A Better Priest Restated

Thesis: more reasons why Christ is a better priest than any other, in this context, those of the Levitical order in Israel

Outline: three arguments to prove why Christ is a better priest
a) He is of a superior order 1-10
b) He has a perpetual assignment 11-23
c) He is the perfect executor of His mission 24-28

REVIEW & RECONNECT: THE SUPPREMACY OF CHRIST
a) Jesus is God and therefore greater and better than angels (Ch 1)
b) Jesus is greater than Moses as a prophet(Ch2&3)
c) Jesus is better than Aaron as a high priest(Ch4&6)

Why is Christ a better priest? First,
I Because He is of a superior order; the order of Melchizedek Genesis 14:16-20

1. Whom Melchizedek was not…
   *Side note: Melchizedek was a priest of God, 400 + years before

2. Who is Melchizedek then?
   a) He is a “TYPE” of Christ
   b) Melchizedek cannot be traced to any genealogy
   c) He was both a king and a priest
   d) The argument is a syllogism:
   e) Abraham is greater than Levi
   f) Abraham was blessed by and gave offerings to Melchizedek
   g) Melchizedek is greater than Levi
   h) Christ Priesthood is according to the order of Melchizedek

II Christ's priesthood is everlasting (it does not expire) 11-24

III He is the perfect executor and carrier of His mission 24-28
