Human Integrity and Hypocrisy
The people most commonly called hypocrites by Jesus in the New Testament were the Pharisees, the group in Israel who were noted for seeking integrity in life! Their hypocrisy lay in looking like they lived for God's honour, but in fact living for the praise of the community, and especially of each other. And then this works out in a critical attitude to others—do they meet the community standard? This danger faces us all! Our piety can be done so that we are okay with the church!
What saves and keeps us in the face of this soul-destroying danger? What enables us to live our lives before God honestly, without the sneaky seeking of the praises of others? Only the love, the grace of the Father which gives us an undivided heart. The person who is forgiven much loves much.
