The Banquet of the Lord

David is speaking as a sheep when he realizes that he is helpless and hopeless without the Shepherd going before him to prepare a safe place to graze and rest. Everything we need for the Christian life is on the banquet table that God has prepared for us.
In the midst of our enemies we have this table, this banquet, that has all the resources we need to lead the Christian life...the victory of Christ, the joy of Christ, the peace of Christ, the enabling and power of Christ.
