I. Scandalous Sin within the Church 5:1-2a

The Greek word is “porneia” is used – which is a general term for immorality.

I think there are at least 4 reasons the situation is left somewhat vague.
    1.  The Corinthians knew the situation well.
    2.  The fact that this was undeniable sin.  
    3.  The principle of not saying too much.  
    4.  The genius 	of inspiration 

II. Dealing with Scandalous Sin within the Church 5:2b-5

A.  Remove him from the Fellowship   v. 2b	
    “taken away” – also means: to be removed, to be expelled, to be separated

B.  The Procedure for Removing Him  v. 3-4

    The Greek verb for “deliver” is paradidomi 
    The same Greek verb for “deliver” is found in 1 Timothy 1:20.
