Our Agreement with God the Father About the Excellency of Our Lord Jesus Christ

The Queen of Sheba exclaimed that God loved Solomon greatly to make him King over Israel, and that because God loved Israel forever, He gave them such a great King to rule over them.

How much more might these statements be made about our Lord Jesus!

The Queen of Sheba never really explained why God loved Solomon, but the Scriptures proclaim the principle basis of God the Father's love for Jesus: because He gave His life to save His people!

Isaiah proclaimed the exaltation of Christ "because He poured out His soul unto death ... and bare the sin of many."

Paul exclaims that God has highly exalted the Savior and caused every knee to bow to Him because He was obedient unto the death of the cross.

Jesus explained that His Father loves Him because He lays down His life for the sheep.

On the other hand, John the Apostle exults in the love of God for His people manifest in the delivery of His Son as a sacrifice to save His people.

So we see that it is the sacrifice of Christ wherein we find both the reason for Christ's exaltation by the Father and the manifestation of God the Father's great love for His people.

Thus, because He loved us, He gave us a great King to establish justice and judgment for us, and because He loved the Savior He has exalted Him to be King. Both aspects are joined in the sacrifice of the Savior for us.

Notice that our King establishes justice and judgment for us. Without the substitutionary sacrifice, that justice and judgment would be our eternal destruction, but because of the atonement, it is a perfect justice and judgment for our exceeding benefit and enjoyment!

Thus, God the Father and the Saints agree: Jesus is Lord!
