Resisting Temptation: Saying No When Others Say Yes

Today, we are going to talk about a subject that everyone faces sooner or later in life – usually sooner than later. It is a subject that is no respecter of persons. It comes to the wealthy and it knocks on the door of the poor. It makes itself available to the young and to the old; to the spiritually immature and to the spiritually mature. It is the subject of temptation. Is it possible to be morally pure in our polluted world? The biblical account of Joseph in Genesis 39 says, “Yes!” If Joseph, a young man reared in a society as morally corrupt as ours, who had no Bible, no church, and not much parental training, alone in a foreign culture, could resist the direct proposition of his master’s wife, then we can resist sexual temptation as well as any other temptation that will come our way.
