The True God Truly Revealed

The illustrative use of light and dark in the Scriptures is literally from beginning to end. "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth." Those opening words of the Bible are echoed in the final chapter of the Scriptures. "There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever." (Revelation 22:5) All throughout the Scriptures, evil is associated with darkness and righteousness is associated with light. When the Savior declared Himself in His earthly ministry, He said that He was the Light of the World. (John 8:12) But we also read that, "…the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil." The text before us today unfolds this truth in the most detailed and specific way. The Holy Spirit reveals to us that the truth is all around us, and even that it cannot be avoided. Yet, the Scriptures also reveal what we also know from experience; many will turn from the clear truth around them and love the darkness. In this, their condemnation is validated. – Pastor Schlegel
