The Temptation of Jesus

22 ( 18 | 4 )

As we observe the temptations of Jesus, it ties to the history of Israel in both His identification with Israel as well as His provision of a righteousness they could not achieve for themselves. Jesus was tempted with hunger as Israel had been tempted, yet without sin. Jesus was tempted to test God in regard to His messianic status. And Jesus was tempted to acquire messianic honor without enduring the task His Father had appointed to Him. In each case, Jesus shows us how to combat temptation: by submitting to the Holy Spirit and the word of God.
