All Israel

66

Those who returned from the exiles could easily be discouraged by their situation. They no longer had a king, other nations oppressed them and there were not many who had come back from the exile. But the Chronicler encourages them because none of those who belong to Israel are lost. He sees one Israel, not a divided kingdom and a holy people who belong to the Lord. In Romans (2:28-29; 9:6) Paul reminds us that we who belong to Christ are the true Israel and that being an Israelite is not dependent on tracing one’s lineage back to the patriarchs but in being united to Christ. It is in Him that our purpose is restored.
