God's Power & Might Prevail

Israel has experienced eighty years of peace after Ehud the previous judge led them in deliverance from bondage under Moab, followed by Shamgar serving as judge.

With sad consistency, Israel persisted in their rebellious ways and 'again did evil in the sight of the Lord' who sees all evil. It was then necessary for God to discipline His people.

This deliverance focuses on the northern part of the kingdom who bears consequences from not having completely defeated the enemies in this area during their conquest and settlement.

Deborah, a prophetess, the only woman who led Israel with God's approval. She will be used by God as judge to lead the nation when their cry is heard by God.

The clear messages for us to learn from for today are that God is sovereign over all the affairs of men and those who lead them; the weapons for our warfare are divinely powerful and it is God who gives victory; God expects us to be involved in His battles; the fail to come to the aid of God's people in the battle is to fail the Lord.

God as promised us peace and rest, but now are the times when we are called to suffer hardship and to be ready to battle for the Truth of God, all by the strength and might He supplies.
