Wickedness, the Flood and the Covenant

643

This part of the overview of Genesis lays the foundation for the rest of Scripture. We will begin with the events that lead up to the flood, and then about Noah's preparations for it.

Chapter six shows how utterly, totally, and completely corrupted man had become. The number of humans could have numbered in the billions and the judgment upon them is the worse that has ever happened so far. The "sons of God" were not angels but were the descendants of Cain who married the daughters of Seth. The continuing problem of godly people marrying ungodly people throughout the Old Testament is first pointed out here. It brings corruption. Judgment is brought on human beings who didn't have a passive role in bringing on God's judgment. All men had corrupted themselves.

The first use of the word "grace" in the Bible is applied to Noah as is the word for "covenant".

God gives Noah the plans for the ark. There was plenty of room for all the species of animals and some spares. Then the flood comes covering all the land.
