Graciousness to Those Who Do Not Inherit the Covenant

God's covenant would be with Abraham. Lot would become a nation outside of the land of promise. It did not mean none from Lot's line could ever belong to the God of Israel. But it did mean God was narrowing His redemptive blessings in order to raise up the Lord Jesus Christ.
