A Real Life Portrait of Jesus Christ

56

The rejections that Jesus endured had a very real effect upon His human soul... As soon as Jesus began to live—He began to suffer... Jesus was a Man who lived His whole life with a broken heart… The Lord Jesus was a "Man of sorrows" because He was;

(1) A MAN OF ACUTE MORAL CONSCIOUSNESS – Jesus was a sinless man living in a sinful, devil-filled, morally depraved world… His holy character caused Him to have a heightened sensitivity to everything around Him… He saw sin—where others couldn't see it... Every transgression of God's law—pained and grieved His holy soul. Sin was a moral outrage to the pure and perfect humanity of Jesus.

(2) A MAN OF DEEP EMOTIONAL TENDERNESS – so much so that He could feel the pain and distresses of others—as if they were His own… Jesus was always moved with sympathy whenever someone was hurting… The pain and sorrows of others became His own pain and sorrows.

(3) A MAN WHO WAS ACQUAINTED WITH GRIEF – Jesus had an intimate knowledge and a personal understanding of human pain and suffering. Sick and suffering people were always attracted to Jesus… Their physical and emotional pain—became His own…
