God Requireth of Thee Fear

134

A perpetual fear of God would keep the children of Israel going in the right direction, and keep them from straying from God. Fear keeps faith in its boundaries.
The hymnwriter said it correctly:
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it;
Prone to leave the God I love.
The scriptures say, I will put my fear in you--showing us that it is a divine work of grace; we do not have this naturally within ourselves.
